It does not get more visceral than CROWBAR. The "doomcore" band has been a consistently high quality, down-tuned rage machine for many years and never lost a step, the latest example, "Lifesblood for the Downtrodden", as good as anything they've ever released. "Live: With Full Force" takes the viewer through a fantastic live performance at the legendary German festival and incorporates excellent interview footage with leader/vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein and his band mates. The DVD gets right to the point and is a thoroughly enjoyable affair.

The eight-song live performance of classic CROWBAR songs is exquisitely filmed on a day when the band was soaking in the crowd energy and playing their asses off. The incorporation of interviews, backstage and club footage, and on-the-road clips is extremely well done and offers fans a great deal of information about the history of the band, as told primarily by Windstein. The 41-year-old (at the time) icon talks about the band's dedication to its craft and presents an enthralling look into what it's like to live for the music, no matter how trying the conditions. Snippets of conversation with veteran Jimmy Bower are intriguing as well. Windstein talks at length about the band's original influences (BLACK SABBATH, THE MELVINS, and CARNIVORE) and points out that tuning the guitars to B "was unheard of in 1988." He also notes that no one has ever been kicked out of CROWBAR, the band always being about bringing in friends to perform with the big guy and leaving the door open for their return. A narrator is used as well to succinctly cover important points in the band's history, such as its first European tour. HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta gets into the act by professing his long-time love and respect for an act that has influenced the sounds, directly or indirectly, of many of today's better known bands. The editing of the concert performances with interview, narration, and associated segments is as good as anything I've seen on a DVD in recent memory.

"Live: With Full Force" is an easy recommendation to make for fans and those new to the legend of CROWBAR. The DVD is also very easy to view in one sitting in that the material presented has been carefully chosen for maximum impact. No complaints here.
