Despite having previously cited GWAR as an example of a band that has lost their relevance, SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor says that he "loves" the group and insists that his previous comments about the band were based on the fact that they "have not been prominent in the music scene for a long time" and not because they are musically insignificant.
"For your information, I LOVE GWAR," Taylor wrote on an unofficial SLIPKNOT message board in response to several fans who were deriding him for disrespecting GWAR. "I don't know how old you are, but I've been into GWAR since I was 16 years old. I was not talking shit on GWAR, I was pointing out the fact that they have not been prominent in the music scene for a long time. Sure, they tour, but when's the last time you heard about one of their albums being released? You know why? Because for the most part, people stopped caring about their music and focused on the circus."
In a separate message, Taylor reiterated one more time that SLIPKNOT is definitely "not breaking up" before releasing at least one more studio album.
"The smack of truth — you really don't get it, do you?" Corey retorted. "SLIPKNOT hasn't been on course for a year. You don't want the truth. You want something to stay the way YOU remember it. And if it deviates even in the slightest, you will turn on us. The band is not breaking up. Now, for fuck's sake, stop bugging me about this shit "
Meanwhile, SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan addressed the persistent break-up rumors in the January 2003 issue of Britain's Rock Sound magazine. When asked if he can see SLIPKNOT making ten albums, Crahan responded, "Absolutely not! There is no way in hell that we will make ten albums. This is the way I look at it — we signed a deal for a certain amount of albums and I would like to see it through and finish it the right way. I think we all do. We have produced two albums in four years and we aren't even half way to where we need to go yet, so you are looking at a minimum of four more years. Let's hope it's eight to ten years. Take a little time, take a little nappy nap and keep the Clown in the basement in the bedroom, and let's see what happens."
